Puppy & Kitten Care

Getting Your New Best Friend Off to a Healthy Start

Welcoming a new puppy or kitten into your home is such an exciting time! Whether it’s your first pet or your fifth, we’re here to help guide you through every step of their early care—from their first check-up to their final vaccine booster.

  • Your pet’s first few visits with us help set the stage for a lifetime of good health. During these appointments, we’ll:

    • Perform a full physical exam
    • Check for congenital concerns or early signs of illness
    • Discuss parasite prevention (fleas, ticks, intestinal worms, etc.)
    • Start their vaccine series
    • Talk about nutrition, socialization, behavior, and training
    • Create a personalized care schedule

You’re welcome to ask as many questions as you want—this is a judgment-free zone, and we’re here to help you feel confident and informed.

  • Young pets need a series of vaccines to help build strong, long-lasting immunity.

    Puppy Vaccine Schedule:

    • 6–8 weeks: First DHPP (distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza)
    • 10–12 weeks: Second DHPP
    • 14–16 weeks: Final DHPP + Rabies
    • Optional: Bordetella, Lyme, Leptospirosis (based on risk)

    Kitten Vaccine Schedule:

    • 6–8 weeks: First FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia)
    • 10–12 weeks: Second FVRCP
    • 14–16 weeks: Final FVRCP + Rabies
    • Optional: Feline Leukemia (FeLV) for kittens going outdoors or into multi-cat homes

We’ll tailor the schedule based on your pet’s lifestyle and your preferences. Missed a dose? No problem—we’ll help get you back on track.

  • Puppies and kittens are commonly born with or exposed to intestinal parasites. We recommend:

    • Deworming every 2 weeks for a total of 3 treatments (e.g., at 6, 8, and 10 weeks of age)
    • Starting monthly heartworm, flea, and tick prevention once they’re old enough

Our team will guide you in choosing the safest and most effective products for your growing pet.

  • Your puppy or kitten’s diet directly affects their growth, development, and energy. We’ll talk about:

    • Choosing a complete and balanced food
    • How much and how often to feed
    • Transitioning from milk/formula to solids (if needed)
    • Training tips and building good habits early
    • Socialization to new people, animals, and environments

Getting off to a good start makes a huge difference in helping your pet grow into a happy, well-adjusted adult.

  • We’ll help you determine the best time to spay or neuter your pet based on their breed, age, and individual needs. This procedure offers many long-term health and behavioral benefits and helps prevent unplanned litters.

  • We’ll create a custom schedule for your pet’s first few months, and as they grow, we’ll be there to support you with:

    • Booster vaccines
    • Nutritional adjustments
    • Teething and behavior changes
    • Transitioning into adolescence and adulthood
