Senior Pet Care

Supporting Your Pet Through Their Golden Years

Just like people, pets experience changes as they age—and we’re here to help them stay healthy, happy, and comfortable every step of the way. At Ste. Anne Veterinary Hospital, we believe that senior pets deserve extra support, close monitoring, and lots of love as they transition into their golden years.

  • Aging can look different for every animal, but as a general rule of thumb:

    • Cats and small dogs: Considered seniors around 7 years of age
    • Large and giant breed dogs: May be considered seniors as early as 5–6 years old

As pets age, they become more susceptible to certain health issues, which is why early detection and proactive care become even more important.

    • More Frequent Check-Ups
    • Senior Wellness Bloodwork
    • Dental Health
    • Mobility & Joint Support
    • Cognitive & Behavioral Changes

Just like people, pets can experience cognitive decline as they age. If your pet seems confused, anxious, or has disrupted sleep, we can help guide you through strategies to support mental sharpness and comfort.

  • We’re here to help you navigate the ups and downs of aging with compassion and honesty. Whether it’s managing chronic conditions, making your home more senior-friendly, or having conversations about quality of life, you’ll never be alone in the process.

Every senior pet is unique, and we tailor our care to fit their lifestyle, comfort level, and your goals as their family.

  • Let us know if you notice:

    • Weight loss or gain
    • Changes in appetite or water intake
    • Coughing or breathing changes
    • Lumps or bumps
    • Difficulty moving or stiffness
    • Accidents in the house
    • Changes in behavior or alertness

Catching these signs early can make a big difference in your pet’s comfort and treatment options.
