Helping Pets Live Healthier, Happier Lives

Maintaining a healthy weight plays a major role in your pet’s overall health, comfort, and longevity. Whether your pet needs to shed a few pounds or avoid gaining them in the first place, we’re here to help with personalized, non-judgmental guidance every step of the way.

  • Every pet is different, which is why we build customized weight management plans based on their lifestyle, health status, and your goals.

    Your pet’s plan may include:

    • A goal weight based on body condition and breed
    • Calorie-controlled feeding plan (yes, we’ll do the math!)
    • Transition to a prescription or weight-loss diet, if needed
    • Guidelines on treats and snacks (we know it’s hard!)
    • Exercise and enrichment ideas that work for your pet’s age and ability
    • Regular weigh-ins and progress tracking

For pets with underlying health concerns like arthritis, thyroid disease, or diabetes, we’ll address those in parallel to ensure safe and sustainable progress.

  • Even a few extra pounds can lead to:

    • Joint and mobility problems
    • Diabetes
    • Heart and respiratory issues
    • Decreased energy or stamina
    • Shortened lifespan

Weight gain in pets often happens gradually, and you may not even notice it until mobility changes or health problems arise. That’s why we include weight and body condition scoring in all routine exams and wellness visits.

  • You might be surprised to learn that over half of household pets are considered overweight! Signs your pet may need a weight check:

    • You can’t easily feel ribs under a thin layer of fat
    • No visible waist or “tuck” behind the ribs
    • Slower to move, play, or go on walks
    • Difficulty jumping or climbing stairs
    • Tires easily during activity

If you’re not sure—don’t worry! We’re happy to assess your pet and help you understand what a healthy weight looks like for their size and breed.
